Junior Development & Our Hopes

To foster the development of skills, fitness, and enthusiasm for the sport of cycling by juniors ages 10-17 in the Tidewater Virginia area.  To increase the participation of school age riders and to offer them a wide range of experiences with experienced cyclists.   To provide a safe, exciting, healthy, and positive experience for all cycling members. Where does the next generation of cycling enthusist come from? JRVS hopes to play a small part.

JRVS Coaches

The JRVS Junior Development Program is based on the USA Cycling Club Coach program.  JRVS believes that cycling is a life long hobby and sport which develops confidence, leadership, physical fitness, and friendships.  We are committed to the enjoyment of cycling at all ages.  Our club members enjoy years of cycling, racing, and coaching experience, including 3 USA Cycling licensed coaches.  All club activities will be supervised by experienced adult riders.

Safety Regulations and Club Rules

  • All riders will wear a proper fitting and maintained cycling approved helmet.
  • All riders will wear approved cycling gloves.
  • All riders will ensure their bike is properly maintained and inspected before each ride.
  • All riders will follow all traffic rules and safety regulations.
  • All riders will follow all directions given by the JRVS coach.

The Program and Schedule

The program is structured to develop cycling skills by understanding the theory and by practicing these to devleop cycling skills. Key lessons are instructed by experiencesd jrvs members. The program includes three basic stages; 1) Basic Cycling Skills - Level 1, 2) Advanced Cycling Skills - Level 2, and 3) Racing and team skills - Level 3.

The fee for participating in this program is $10 per year for non-members and is free for members. To enter into the program, parents and the cyclist must meet with a junior Development Comittee member to discuss the program.
